Decision-Making System Used By The Top 1%
Hey Guys,
Today I want to talk about decision-making . I’ll explain to you a unique approach known as the "Decision-Making System Used By The Top 1%," which combines the principles of cognitive psychology and neuroscience to optimize our decision-making process.
Two Modes of Thinking and Deciding
Our journey begins with the work of Israeli-American psychologist Daniel Kahneman, who identified two distinct modes of thinking: System 1 and System 2.
System 1 is:
fast
intuitive
automatic
→ leveraging the subconscious
System 2 is:
slow
deliberate
conscious
→ often involving weighing options and analyzing pros and cons.
However, an over-reliance on System 2 can slow down decision-making, increase stress, and degrade performance.
Flow State and Transient Hypofrontality
The concept of 'Flow State' is an optimal state of consciousness where people feel and perform their best. In this state, people tend to rely more on System 1 thinking, allowing for fast and intuitive decision-making. This is facilitated by a phenomenon known as transient hypofrontality, where the prefrontal cortex, the region of the brain responsible for conscious decision-making, takes a back seat, and System 1 thinking takes over. This leads to near-perfect intuitive decision-making, which can be applied to all decisions.
Flow-Based Decision-Making
Flow-based decision-making is the ability to harness the fast, flawless intuition of flow and apply it to all choices with a perfect blend of System 1 and System 2 thinking. This process requires rigor, preparation, and diligence at the outset.
It involves:
identifying the root problem
gathering information
letting the subconscious process the information
using System 2 thinking to analyze and confirm the decision
taking action to execute the decision.
Benefits of Flow-Based Decision-Making
Flow-based decision-making leads to more and better decisions, made faster, and with less cognitive energy. It balances intuition and deliberation to leverage the subconscious and conscious mind to make optimal decisions. It elevates the quality of decision-making across all aspects of life.
The Cognitive Bias High
The flow-based decision-making process allows for fast, intuitive decision-making. Over time, this process can lead to a cognitive bias high, which occurs when making the right decision despite cognitive biases. This leaves individuals feeling confident and clear in their decision-making, allowing them to navigate decision-making with ease and accuracy.
Maximizing Flow-Based Decision Making
To deepen and accelerate flow-based decision-making, it's important to maximize the creativity of the default mode network, which is active around the clock. This network plays a crucial role in our ability to generate creative solutions and make effective decisions.
I hope you now have a better understanding on how you can make better decisions. If you have questions, feel free to ask!
Cheers,Jonas
